Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup cold butter, cubed
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 large egg, beaten
3 cups sliced fresh strawberries
3 tbsp white sugar




Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix together flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and cream of tartar in a large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives. Stir in cream and egg until mixed well. Place dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead dough for 2 minutes. Press into a 1/2-inch-thick sheet. Cut into squares and place on baking sheets.
  • Bake in the oven until golden, about 20 minutes. Allow shortcakes to cool.
  • Place strawberries in a medium bowl. Sprinkle with sugar; stir to combine. Split cooled shortcakes in half and spread with sugared berries.
  • Top with whipped cream!
